It's hard to get more traditional than this raglan-sleeved, arrow-lace-panelled, crew-necked sweater. The back right raglan seam is left unsewn and then finished with a tiny buttonband and buttons; but you could just as easily do it with the buttons at one of the front seams, so as not to have the baby lie on them all the time. And if you chose neat buttons, it would just add to the whole thing...
