It's the shape and the scale. We know, it's a plain slightly scoop-necked sweater with stripes. Then why does it look so perfectly right? Because of every tiny shaping and placement detail. The waist and shoulders and back neck are all shaped. The sleeves are carefully set in. The neckline is astutely judged. All welt (ribbing) widths are perfectly calibrated. There's an art to tailoring with which most people are unfamiliar-- but the French were the first to perfect it, and it shows up here brilliantly. Finished measurements given below in inches are correct.
