This is a very subtly cabled, slouchy hat of great interest and mysterious beauty. The yarn has a great deal to do with it; Frankel's selection of a soft, drapey alpaca/Bluefaced Leicester mix imbues it with tactile appeal, and guarantees warmth as well as lasting good looks. You start at the brim and work up to the crown (cable pattern is written out, not charted), and alternate instructions are provided if you wish to make it even slouchier (perhaps more like a foldy beret). Truly an exercise in easy sophistication.
