8001 Hat and Scarf

Absolute beginners can be warm too, and not look like beginners at all. There are optional flowers on this hat, to be fashioned out of a "small amount of DK yarn" (which of course you have in your stash), to be knitted on 3.25mm (3US) needles. Or you can leave them off if you are knitting for a man and he rejects embellishment of that kind. Unlike many knitted hats for beginners, this one finishes in a close-fitting crown, not a paper-bag bunching. The scarf could hardly be simpler. We will state only that it takes 9mm needles and involves knitting and purling.
