Intriguingly made in one piece, this very versatile vest is one of those pieces that looks much more complicated than it is. In fact, it's basically two rectangles; you begin at the front hem and work up and over and down the lower back, with a little bit of minor easy dibbling at the neckline. Otherwise-- no shaping-- no full-fashioned decreases-- no seams to sew at the end either. Schmidt is kind enough to build in easy selvage stitches, too, so your edges look neater than the norm for a newbie. Altogether a kind and gentle pattern, generously written at length (one of Reynolds's "New Knitter" series).
