We gasped when we saw this. Our bias towards pieces that could be worn at any given time over the past 15 centuries (or are at least medieval in tone), is pretty obvious. Eleanor of Aquitaine could have worn this; Francis of Assisi's friend Clare; Elizabeth of York, Henry VIII's mother; we could go on, but why? For sheer loveliness it has no superior, and obviously cannot date or stale. Nor is it too elaborate. It has just exactly the right amount of fancy work, with the large plain st st field highlighting it. Careful, attentive instructions. We're in love.
