School of Elizabeth Zimmermann: knitting only throughout. You'll learn right-and left-leaning mirrored increases; slipped stitches; applied i-cord (which you'll use forever after); and garter stitch seaming. Really a university course in itself-- not because of any inherent difficulty, but because you have to pay attention to a number of things at once-- excellent training. But the Cabin Fever pattern writing style is so friendly, informative, and encouraging, that you'll hardly notice any strain. At the end you'll be marvelling at yourself: "I did what? It was so easy! I made this!"
