Against all reason, Neatby succeeds in being both opinionated and a champion of freedom-- and she does both while you're falling in love with her pattern writing and teaching style. She recommends you use "fingering weight wool or wool blend yarn... this stitch pattern shows off hand-painted yarns to great advantage..." She teaches many methods of dealing with the unusual features of this stitch pattern. There are tips and charts (to make sure you understand the vertical alignment of the holes) and variations of every kind. See data page for gauge information (such as it is). This pattern is so very useful in your stash. The Spindrift Capelet, in the same technique, is available here too.

Hi - I think there might be an error in the knit widthwise version of this pattern. For rows 1 and 2, it says to cast on 5 stitches each, then to bind off 5 stitches each a few rows later. I think it should be 6, as that keeps the balance of "12 + 1" for the pattern. Thanks.
