Newton was definitely blazing her own tailored trail in the late 80's. Not for her the undisciplined, the sloppy-- Exhibit A, this spectacular jacket. Everything is shaped. Back neck, shoulders, armholes, sleeve caps-- everything but the waist, and surely that is omitted only because there are side seam pockets. The buttonbands and shawl collar are knitted as one piece (Newton's instructions are very precise) and then sewn in afterward. A jewel for any wardrobe in any era. Best of all... you can still make this in the original yarn.
