Gayle Bunn

Cable Cross-Over
WORLD EXCLUSIVE

This lush garment is a kind of wrap pullover, with the lower front and back knitted separately, then the upper back and left and right fronts. They are then assembled and sewn together; the cabled bodice edging is added after that in one long piece, sewing as you go. It has all the back neck, armhole, and shoulder shaping you'd expect from tailoring master Bunn. This piece (originally published in Knit 'N Style) seems two things at once to us: amazingly intimate and yet completely professional-- like one of those gowns in a Katharine Hepburn movie that she could wear either to a formal dinner dance or, equally likely, to bed. In this alpaca, it's clearly a sensual but public garment. In a silk, it could be legally restricted to a honeymoon suite.
