As so often, it is the detail here that makes this splendid cardigan so uniquely French. There is a wolf and a girl with a basket and headscarf, and a house with a lane on the back of the cardigan; draw your own conclusions as to the subject. Just about everything is charted, and three embroidery stitches are illustrated. In silhouette, it's a beautifully tailored set-in sleeve cardi with a dipped back neck and sloped shoulders. We love the juxtaposition of the even, disciplined rhythm of the fair isle and the exuberance of the intarsia.
