One of Melanson's themes is the Empire waist; smocking is another. Here we find both of these themes beautifully united. This gorgeous pattern is all about the shaping, and rated Experienced because there's so much of it going on simultaneously that you can't really coast. Above the smocked band there are even bust darts. We have reproduced the schematic in part to show you just how detailed this gets. Now, if you are up for it, we daresay that you will never find a more flattering garment. That alone should be reason enough to gather up a lovely yarn unto your bosom and have a go.
