Polcyn explains: "The front is worked in two pieces. The lower front is worked the same as the back to the start of the armhole shaping, then bound off straight across. The upper front begins by casting on two stitches at the bottom of the right side, increases along the diagonal front edge, and decreases at the side edge until
it contains the same number of stitches at the bustline as the back and lower front. The front armhole and neck shaping are worked on the upper front. During finishing, the bound-off edge of the lower front is sewn invisibly to the wrong side of the upper front." We have little to add, except to admire this piece's great beauty and simplicity.
