417 Super Karla's Fantastic Dream Shawl

"When Super Karla swings her shawl to the lyrics of the Rolling Stones’ 'She's Like A Rainbow,' the magic appears in this enchanting and fantastic shawl," says Wackerhagen fancifully. She adds: "This knitting technique is called entrelac in English but neverkont in Scandinavian languages. It is a Nordic word for birch + basket because the knitting looks like birch bark basket weaving. The pattern is usually worked in stockinette but this design features 13 different lace motifs." We've included the schematic so you can see how it works; the result is breathtaking. Knitted with one strand each of the Merino Fine and Super Kid Mohair Print held together (either can be variegated); gauge is given like this over stockinette.
