The design for this shawl was inspired by the enormous flower markets you can find in most large cities. The body is an all-over floral lace pattern and the border is reminiscent of bouquets of flowers, fresh from the market, still wrapped in newsprint.
The Flower Market Shawl is a triangular shawl with a garter stitch border. It is knit from the center back to the bottom edge, with increases at each edge and along the center stitch.
Finished size: 51 inches x 30 inches (size is dependent upon gauge and how severely you block it)
Notions: yarn needle, stitch markers (4), blocking pins/wires
The pattern includes both chart instructions and full written instructions.
The suggested yarn is Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light (2 skeins, color: Tart) or you may substitute approx 600 yards of any fingering weight yarn.
Gauge is not crucial since this is not a fitted garment but changes in gauge can affect both the size of the shawl and the amount of yarn required to complete it.
