"Cabled poncho, worked sideways," says Alexander. "It is not a difficult pattern, because there are no decreases, and no increases... you keep the stitch count, but change the usage of pattern repeats." As always from Alexander, this is a piece of serious beauty imagined by an unfettered mind. You begin with a provisional cast on, work the cable panels (half and full cable patterns are written out only), then graft the beginning and end edges together. Then you pick up for the cabled neck edging and cast that off. The cable usage does all the shaping work for you.
