Few lace sock patterns combat possible boredom as well as this one, and it's beautifully thought out. The leg has a less open pattern, so it's grippier; while the foot, should it find itself encased in a shoe, has a more open pattern-- on the instep only, of course-- that improves breathability. The heel is worked in a traditional Heel Stitch, and the toe finished with grafting Kitchener Stitch (not given, but terribly easy to find on the internet).
